Kahika - Employment Mentoring Programme

Are you struggling to find employment? Not sure where to go for support? Then the Kahika mentoring programme is for you. Join a programme that provides upskilling and networking opportunities to help you achieve your employment goals.

Kahika is a mentoring programme that aims to provide you with the resources and support to help overcome common employment barriers experienced by migrant and former refugee communities. 

This is a pilot programme starting with women from migrant and former refugee backgrounds that are looking to improve their employment outcomes and that meet the following criteria:

- Current visa to work in NZ  
- Been in Aotearoa New Zealand for more than two years  
- Completed tertiary qualifications here or overseas  
- Professional work experience from here or overseas  
- Looking to re-establish their career in Aotearoa New Zealand  
- Completed (or is keen to complete) a free work-ready programme 
- Lives in Auckland, NZ  
- Self-transport  
- Able to commit to a programme based in Auckland

The programme will provide mentoring support and sessions that cover the following topics: 

- Goal setting 
- The Treaty Workshop
- Networking & Confidence Building
- Financial Development
- Creating CVs/Preparing for Interviews
- Tailoring Connections to Employment Sector 
- And more 

By the end of the programme participants will have in relation to their identified: 

- Greater clarity and confidence on pathways to employment 
- Increased networks that support employment goals identified
- Increased readiness in relation to topics that support applying for and seeking employment 
- Greater employment pathways available 
- And much more 

Whilst this programme is initially starting with women we encourage all expressions of interest as they can contribute to the next cohorts.

  1. Friday 27 Sept, 10am – 1pm; Introduction – Creating Pathways to achieve personal/career goals

  2. Thursday 3 Oct, 10am – 1pm; Treaty of Waitangi Workshop

  3. Friday 11 Oct, 10am – 1pm; Personal Branding

  4. Monday 14 Oct, 10am – 1pm; CV and Job Interview Skills

  5. Friday 25 Oct, 10am – 1pm; Financial Development

  6. Friday 1 Nov, 10am – 1pm; Networking and Business connect

  7. Friday 8 Nov, 10am – 1pm; Next steps
