Our Vision.

An inclusive, connected Aotearoa New Zealand where newcomer communities can enjoy and contribute to our collective wellbeing and prosperity.

Migrant and former refugee communities face specific barriers to settlement in Aotearoa New Zealand, including:

  • Societal and institutional racism, discrimination and bias

  • Ineffective policies and decision-making models

  • Complex and unfamiliar health, education and employment systems and services

  • A lack of recognition of the skills and experience they bring

These barriers make it difficult for former refugees and migrants to access opportunities, connect with communities of support and earn sufficient income.

We work to challenge these structures and systems and improve the settlement experience for migrant and refugee communities.

We do this by:

  • Understanding the key issues for migrants and refugee background communities through research and working directly with them.

  • Empowering communities. We support communities to gain skills and become their own advocates. We use our experience and relationships to amplify voices of migrants and former refugees to key changemakers including central and local government, and employers.

  • Influencing and advising. We identify opportunities to influence attitudes, policies, and practices that benefit newcomer communities. We advocate to scale-up solutions that work and challenge approaches that have failed.

  • Collaborating and partnering. We know that there’s power in working together. That’s why we work with like-minded organisations - together we are stronger and louder.
